My friend Cathy

Cathy and I met when we were 15 years old in Mr Barry's biology class we have known each other 38 years. When we get together it is like we pick up where we left off 6 months ago. Gma is friends with Cathy's mom Marge. Cathy and I used to call them MARGARAN and laugh hysterically over the things they would produce in arts and crafts. I remember coming home from school to shellaced loaves of bread and bagels with ribbons tied around them. Fortunately neither Cathy or I have any craft skills.

In all the years I have been going to Florida I have never seen so many dragon flies in flight. It was really interesting to watch them. I kept trying to get good pictures of them but was limited because of the camera.

Off to Florida!

After my crazy busy week I finally get to go soak up the sun and sand down South. I am really looking forward to it as I know gray cold snowy days are ahead. Uncle Doug came in last night for business and stayed here, he has a lot of freaked out clients in his line of work so he has to spend time calming them down. Whatever the reason it was good to catch up with him. We had our annual mandatory education day at work and the chaplain spoke to us about " compassion fatigue" the new word for burnout and darned if I didn't have every symptom on the list. When we talked about it after and he asked us what strategies we had to deal with it it was great to say sold house, Florida nsg license, I am out of here!! I guess as strategies go it's a pretty good one.

Don't eat too many sunflower seeds

I took care of a 35 yr old father this week who was sitting around watching a football game drinking a few beers and eating sunflower seeds, just enjoying himself. Comes to ER the next day with his abdomen all distended and hard and in a lot of pain. He ate almost 2 bags with the shells on. The seeds had solidified into a hard mass in his lower intestine. After trying to dig it out etc he had to go to the OR and ended up with a colostomy since the surgeon had to remove part of his lower colon since the mass o seeds had turned into the consistency of cement. Very sad.
