Sorting thru stuff

Since the house is up for sale I felt compelled to continue sorting thru the basement. Even though I am no hoarder or pack rat you still accumulate stuff over the course of 20 years in a house. It's been fun though to decide who gets what (Keith and Kim good china and crystal to hopefully pass on to Celia) and what I will take with me. I want only one carful and a small car at that so I have to choose carefully. Obviously family pics, baby books, clothes and a few knickknacks. I want to keep it simple. The next phase of my life will be about owning less including a house. I no longer want the hassle of ownership. I did find my scrapbooks I kept of my life aged 16-21 what a hoot! I am going to keep those.

Advances in health care

Over 30 years I've watched little progress made in medical advances except for cardiac care and cancer care. Cardiac care especially is less invasive with the use of stents vs open heart surgery People are surviving longer and better. The same with cancer patients. Unfortunately I still see ridiculous things going on. I took care of a 94 year old new dx of bone cancer and he was put on chemo, He came in totally miserable and the tx will probably kill him. Stop the madness

Health Care for All

In 2005 the US spent 15.3 % of the gross domestic product on health care leaving 48 million uninsured. Contrast that to France who spent 10.7 and all other European countries spent less than France and covered all citizens. We have an easy template for universal health care it's called medicare a single payer system that would have to be tweaked. Of course the insurance co are fighting vigorously against it as it would end the greed machine.
