Computer Madness

Well we went live with our new electronic medical record and it is not going well. Why do administrators and computer people make things way more complicated than they need to be? If I assessed a patient I could write in 2 lines an accurate picture of a patient's condition. To do the same I have to click in and out of 12 windows and it takes 5 times a long. Prior to the switch over the ED had a 2 page flowsheet where we did 90% of our charting of course no one thought to build those 2 pages into the program. All we needed was the Triage form/ 2page flowsheet/and a narrative page. All we are being told is it cannot be fixed. I am beyond frustrated. We have had several near misses with medication administration because docs are entering them wrong I dread going to work. We have had 2 nurses resign and a back injury from pushing the wow's ( wireless on wheels) around. These things weigh fifty pound and have to be wheeled into every patient's room because they refused to give us handhelds. They could have at least motorized them with a seat and a beverage holder. The nursing staff now has to stand and document instaed of at least grabbing a few minutes to sit and chart The only good thing I can say is when the depart is quiet we are going to hold a wow special olympics and have prizes. I intend to get a blue ribbon in bumper wow

Furnace Savings

I just got my new bill post more energy efficient furnace installation the weather conditions were the same and my bill was 50 dollars lower than the previous month. Between the new windows and furnace my bill was 100 dollars less than my neighbor Judy who has original windows and furnace. I am impressed. I didn't expect to see that much of a difference
