ED Olympics
From an article I read.
The Medical Skills Challenge:
This event would highlight medical skills and would include Speed Foley placement, Speed Intubation, Timed Leather Restraint Application, Timed Medical Screening Exam, and of course Power Ordering in which the provider and a unit secretary has to order as many tests as possible after evaluating the patient in a 2 minute time span all with insurance justification.
Language Identification and Flexibility" A patient lying on his back on a backboard speaking an unknown language and moaning. The providers goal is to identify the language family, specific language and find the appropriate translater. However here's the hook, the pt is intoxicated! When you are drunk enough Arabic and Spanish sound alot like Cantonese. Points off if competitors use a resource that results in the pt accidentally being called any thing offensive such as monkey butt or prostitute.
The Emergithon:
This is worth the most points.Competitors have to race across the Emergency Department holding a cup of ice while wrestling with slippery, obese, dramatic drunks with cell phones to their ears who are exposing themselves, speaking Norwegian, and asking for narcotic prescriptions and work excuses. The patients are vomiting and will each require a transfer form and accepting physician in another facility. First they have to have restraints placed and rate their customer service all within 30 minutes.
GOOD LUCK!
